CoolestSG and SPECS Consortium launch

On 9th April 2019, the Smart Grid Power Electronics Consortium Singapore (SPECS) and CoolestSG national energy consortiums were officially launched at the National Research Foundation (NRF). The launch commemorates the official commencement of operations for the two energy consortia first announced at the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2018.

SPECS serves as a networking platform, to inform industry on the latest research and competencies across IHLs and RIs entities. Through academic-industry collaboration, SPECS will enable companies to access the latest technologies developed by these researchers, and translate them into commercially-viable products and services.

The official launch was attended by more than seventy energy professionals from IHLs, private companies and the government sector. The consortia were launched to bring together and create synergies between these parties to develop Singapore’s energy capabilities to prepare us for the future of energy.

During the launch, guests were invited to a panel session featuring some of Singapore’s distinguished energy professionals. Panelists were quizzed on all sorts of aspects of energy from technology, policy and future trends allowing for good exchange of dialogue and learning.

The day’s events concluded with a lunch reception and poster presentations. The poster presentations were carried out by the IHLs and featured some of their own developed energy technology. Technologies in the domains of energy efficiency, renewable energy, autonomous vehicles, and solid state transformers were featured during the event.

Grid 2.0 Roundtable

Published on: 1st November 2019

On the 1st November 2019, the SPECS Programme Office hosted prominent speakers in the local energy scene to speak on Grid 2.0, the future of the electricity grid. SPECS members were invited to listen to representatives from SembCorp, Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), Accenture, Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University.

The experts spoke on how Grid 2.0 would change the Singapore energy landscape. The grid will be increasingly digitalized, and this represents an opportunity for SPECS companies to ride on the wave of transformation facing the energy industry.

25th January SPECS x REIDS Workshop

Published on: 25-Jan-2019

On the 25th January 2019, the Smart Grid & Power Electronics Consortium of Singapore (SPECS) co-organized with the Renewable Energy Integrator Demonstrator of Singapore a workshop for members of both programs.

Members were invited to a special session that talked about the future of grids. The session not only covered technological insights but also the latest on-goings in the energy business. We were delighted to have SPECS members such as IESVE and NUS to present at the session on energy storage systems and Grid 2.0. Members of both programs were then treated to a lunch networking event where they mingled with one another to exchange ideas and discuss possible business collaborations. It was certainly a productive day of sharing and creating new ideas for the upcoming energy industry.

ACEPT 2019

Published on: 31-Oct-2019

The Smart Grid Power Electronics Consortium of Singapore (SPECS) in conjunction with the 4th Asian Conference on Energy, Power and Transportation Electrification (ACEPT), part of the Asia Clean Energy Summit (ACES) located at Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW 2019), brought together world-leading experts from industry and academia presenting on emerging topics on energy, power, transportation electrification, smartgrid, advanced power electronics using wide bandgap devices (e.g. solid state transformers) and microgrids. The conference was held on 31 October 2019.

The Smart Grid & Power Electronics Consortium was honored to have Think Smartgrids our associate partner from France presenting at the event. Think Smartgrids is an association that gathers French smart grids stakeholders to drive smart grids projects in France. SPECS members can look forward to working with the French ecosystem to takes their businesses to the next level.
